Me, Sora, Pichu and Pikachu enter Viridian Forest. I see a Caterpie.
Me: Alright, I'm gonna catch it. Go Spearow! Peak Attack!
Spearow: Spear! *Attacks Caterpie.*
*As Caterpies aren't very strong in the first place it was knocked out with the first hit.*
Me: Go pokeball!
The ball shakes a few times, then dines.
Me: Yes! I did it!

*Yeah you're farther ahead but I'll catch up fast. **This is story format.
Maria walked down the road, Eve and Dawn leading the way, playfully knocking eachother around. Maria started flicking through her pokedex and found what she was looking for. "There are Pikachu, Caterpie, Weedle, Metapod and Kakuna in this forest so watch out you two." They both nodded and started walking, a little more wary this time. A small burst of lightning came from off to their left, Maria flicked her gaze towards it. A small pikachu darted from the bushes, being chased by a Beedrill. It looked around, spotting the two Eevee and rushed over to them, cringing behind Eve. "Oh dear, Eve will you take care of it please?" He nodded, rushing forward at tackling the bug pokemon with a return attack. "Hey!" A young kid rushed out of the woods, "That's my pokemon, what do you think you're doing?" Maria stared at him, "Were you trying to catch that pikachu?" He nodded, "What else would I be doing?" "Well scaring it off won't do you any good, and that pokemon's sick or else your flying pokemon would have been toast against an electric pokemon." The kid stared, "I'm still gonna catch it. Go Beedrill." Using twin needle the bug pokemon attacked, Eve intercepted the attack, knocking the beedrill away. "You'll have to battle me first, I'm not letting you battle a sick and injured pikachu." The kid nodded, "A battle will be even better than catching some little rat."
"Eve, use Return attack." Maria said. He tackled and pinned Beedrill to the ground, bending it's wing. "Now Bite it." Eve bit the Beedrill and jumped back. "Twin Needle!" Eve easily dodged and tackled it using quick attack, knocking it back into a tree. The KOed pokemon fell to the ground. In a flash of red light the kid recalled his pokemon. "That wasn't fair." "It was perfectly fair, you agreed to battle, there were no rules, therefore you lost fairly." Maria walked over to the Pikachu, who cringed. It backed up towards Dawn, growling. "It's alright..." She said in a soft voice, "I'm not going to hurt you." And with a little uring from the female Eevee it collapsed onto the ground, eyes closed. Maria picked it up and cradled it in her arms. She turned without another word to the kid and walked towards Viridian City.

Carlotta was riding slowly through the Viridian Forest on the lookout for wild pokemon. The forest seemed to get thicker and darker the further in she went. That was a bit ominous. She didn't mind bugs as long as they didn't get too close to her, but this was getting downright creepy. All these weird shadows and such...still, she needed to go this way to get to Pewter City. Or to Route 2, rather, which in turn led to Pewter City. She was just about to speed up her pedaling, though, when a pokemon trainer - a bug catcher, by the looks of him - stepped out of the thick foliage on the side of the road, saw her, and challenged her to a match. Naturally, she accepted. Carlotta stopped her bike and released her pokemon.
TRAINER STATS LV15 Beedrill LV15 Butterfree LV15 Paras LV16 Venonat LV18 Pinsir LV20 Scyther
Krabby was up first. It launched a Bubble attack that was dodged, but then dodged a Fury Attack - and retaliated with a Vicegrip! That was it for the Beedrill; it was kept in the Vicegrip until it finally fainted. Then the pokemon was switched for a Butterfree. The Butterfree immediately released a Poison Powder attack and then tried to Tackle Krabby. Krabby got hit, but grabbed Butterfree in its powerful larger claw with a Vicegrip attack and held it until it fainted. Butterfree was switched for Paras as Carlotta quickly fed Krabby an Antidote.
Krabby didn't let it get close enough to attack this time, attacking it several times in a row with a Bubble attack, and so it release a Stun Spore attack that Krabby somehow managed to dodge just quickly enough. Then it got a Scratch attack and retaliated by knocking the pokemon out with a final Bubble attack. Krabby grew to level 13! Paras was switched for Venonat, then, and Krabby immediately hit it with a Bubble attack. It rushed forward, throwing out two more Bubble attacks, until it got close enough to use its Vicegrip attack. The pokemon fainted while in the grasp of Krabby's larger claw. Then Krabby retreated to let the pokemon be switched for a Pinsir.
Carlotta knew that Vicegrip wouldn't work against this pokemon.
"Krabby! Keep your distance!"
The Pinsir was hit with three Bubble attacks in the space of time it took to use Focus Energy to up its attack power. Then the Pinsir rushed forward but missed when it tried to deliver a devastating Seismic toss - and received two Bubble attacks for its trouble as it turned around. It tried again, and again it missed. The Pinsir was strong, but Krabby was the faster of the two as it used Leer and then hit Pinsir with two more bubble attacks. It only barely dodged a third Seismic Toss in order to deliver a finishing blow against the Pinsir: another Bubble attack that knocked it out. Krabby grew to level 14 as the Pinsir was replaced with a Scyther.
Dodging a False Swipe right off the bat, Krabby then got hit with a Pursuit attack. A Bubble attack knocked the Scyther flat on its back and it was getting up as Krabby rushed onto its back and used Vicegrip.
"Creative," the trainer muttered, "very creative."
Unable to reach the small pokemon, it slowly but surely lost the fight as it was hurt by the Vicegrip attack and eventually fainted. Krabby grew to level 15 instantly! It was great! Scyther was recalled and the bug catcher congratulated Carlotta and Krabby (whom was also congratulating Krabby) on the win. Then the bug catcher took off again and quickly disappeared through the foliage of the Viridian Forest. Carlotta healed Krabby with two potions and a berry, recalled her pokemon, and rode on...

It was some time before Carlotta saw another pokemon, and that made her slightly nervous. She increased her pace on the bike and the path soon disappeared as it was replaced by moss and such. Finally, though, she realized the moss was something else. She couldn't placed it until she accidentally rode over something. Stopping to see what it was, she started as at least a dozen pairs of glowing red eyes suddenly stared out at her.
She gasped and released her pokemon immediately. They saw the situation right away and were immediately attacked by several dozen Beedrill! They held their own with Bubble attack after Bubble attack after Bubble attack after Bubble attack after Bubble attack until they began to grow tired. But they kept going until every last Beedrill had been defeated. They were exhausted - they had no power left at all. Carlotta checked her PokeDex to see how much power they had left, but it seemed that they had grown despite their newfound lack of any energy. Squirtle began to glow right before her eyes - and evolved into Wartortle! Krabby apparently wouldn't evolve until much later, but she was at level 19 now and had learned Harden along the way, whereas her new Wartortle was at level 18 and had learned two new attacks: Watergun and Bite, the latter of which Squirtle had replaced Bubble with. Thus, the pokemon had a little power left - which was good, because suddenly there were a lot of Weedle staring angrily at her! Wartortle immediately began launching attacks against the Weedle while Krabby used Harden. Knowing that was the only attack she could use right now, she returned her to her pokeball and watched as the Weedle were swiftly defeated by the ferocity of her newly-evolved pokemon's attacks. Wartortle grew to level 19 and was returned to its pokeball. Then Carlotta rode full-speed ahead toward Route 2, forgetting about the Kakuna she'd ridden over or anything else in the Viridian Forest. She hated this place!
